The Lost Occult Books of Victor Neuburg

Justin Hopper is raising money to publish the long-lost 1920s poetry of legendary English poet and occultist Victor Neuburg – Aleister Crowley's lover and the publisher who discovered Dylan Thomas.

Working with the Neuburg family he's publishing nearly 100 stream-of-consciousness poems rooted in esoteric learnings which Neuburg believved were 'dictated' or channeled to him by unknown forces in 1924. These have never been published before – or even read by anyone, really!

About the book

Written in streams-of-consciousness, 'as though dictated' by visiting spirits, Victor Neuburg wrote nearly 100 prose poems in 1924-1925 under the title The Water Bearer, along with other works he assembled with the title Intaglios.

Yet the most profound expression of his beliefs - magick, reincarnation and a paganistic relationship with nature - appeared in poems that have never been published; indeed, which have not, until now, been read by more than three people alive.

‘The Water Bearer’ and ‘Intaglios’ were written in 1924-1925 and stayed in a trunk until Neuburg’s granddaughter Caroline Neuburg discovered them in the 1980s. Caroline spent years deciphering these works. Now, Victor’s poems and Caroline’s research into them is available for the first time.

Kickstarter rewards include a limited-edition silkscreen print of a drawing Austin Osman Spare made for Victor Neuburg in 1915, which has likewise been locked away for more than a century. Plus limited-edition hardback books and other related stuff.

And if they reach their stretch goal every book will also come with a free limited zine of Neuburg's writing about Sussex folklore, landscape and history, including his essay on English fairy lore – writings that have been essentially unseen since the 1920s.
